One of the greatest feats of modern-day engineering in Europe, the Falkirk Wheel lifts boats up 115ft from one canal to another.
This boat elevator was built using the latest state of the art engineering methods. It connects the Forth And Clyde Canal with the Union Canal.
A plan was instigated to revitalise the canal route across Scotland. This stretch featured an antiquated series of locks. The Wheel was designed to replace them. Today it is an attraction in its own right.
Children marvel as they see boats lifted high into the air. More can be discovered on-site as there is a cafe, activity zone, mini canal and water play park nearby. A great day out for old and young alike.
